How to Get Cheap Broadway Tix for the Hottest Shows

If you’re even thinking of coming to New York, chances are that seeing a Broadway show is high on your list of things to do. However, you might find that Broadway tickets are really expensive, and the more popular shows like Hamilton or Dear Evan Hansen can be sold out for months! Luckily, there are several ways that you can still see the best shows at reduced prices.

  • TKTS Discount Booths

The TKTS ticket booths sell same-day discount tickets to some of the biggest Broadway shows, up to 50% off. Tickets are limited and availability changes every day. We recommend the South Street Seaport or Downtown Brooklyn locations, as they are open earlier and are usually less crowded than the popular Times Square location.

  • Choose the date, they’ll choose the show

Don’t know or even care what Broadway show you want to see? Broadway Roulette will make the choice for you! Simply choose a date and eliminate up to six shows from their show list that you don’t care for, and they will notify you that morning as to which show you will be seeing. All tickets are either $49 or $59, depending on the day.

  • Become a seat-filler

This one is more for native New Yorkers who love seeing any kind of show. Play By Play is a seat-filling service who, for a yearly fee of $99 or $198, provide their members with free tickets to a variety of NYC performances. You can theoretically see a show every day if you’d like. As a seat-filler, there are several rules you need to follow, but well worth it if you enjoy seeing lots of live shows in NYC.

  • Cross your fingers and try for rush, lottery, or standing room only tickets

Willing to get up early and possibly stand on line for several hours? Rush tickets can be available at the box office of some shows the day of. And if you don’t mind not sitting for a show, standing room only tickets may also be available for sold out shows at very reasonable prices. You may also try your luck with a digital lottery for many shows, where you can win discounted tickets for that day. Playbill has a full list of these available tickets and how to obtain them.
