1) Jerry Seinfeld
Jerry Seinfeld is one of the most famous comedians in the United States! Jerry Seinfeld was born on April 29, 1954, in Brooklyn, New York City. He made his first stand-up debut at an open mic night in 1976. After starring in his own television special in 1987, he developed the sitcom, Seinfeld for NBC with fellow comedian, Larry David. His show was the best rated show on NBC Network, where it aired for 9 seasons and won 9 Emmys. Seinfeld also produced and starred in the Bee Movie which was also a critical hit. He now hosts the series, Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee, for Netflix.
2) Scarlett Johansson
Scarlett Ingrid Johansson, known for her role in the Marvel Cinematic movie as “Black Window,” is as New York as they come. Scarlett was born in New York City on November 22, 1984. She began her acting career at a very young age, and her role as “Grace” in the movie The Horse Whisperer brought her critical acclaim and recognition. Johansson is also an accomplished musician, as she released her debut album, Anywhere I Lay My Head, in May 2008. She was among the world’s highest-paid actresses from 2014 to 2016. While she does split her time between Europe and New York, she considers herself a true New Yorker.
3) Claire Danes
Claire Danes is the face of Showtime, playing brilliant CIA agent, Carrie Mathison, on Homeland. Danes was born in Manhattan, New York City. Throughout her early life she was an astounding student and pursued education, attending The New York City Lab School for Collaborative Studies and The Professional Performing Arts School in Los Angeles. In 1998, she attended Yale University to study psychology. Danes first came to major public attention when she appeared as Angela Chase in My So-Called Life. She even took part in the Terminator franchise. She was awarded multiple Emmys and Golden Globes for her amazing role in Homeland.
4) Lady Gaga
We cannot make a list without including one of the most famous New York celebrities out there, Lady Gaga! Lady Gaga, or Stefani Joanne Angelina Germanotta, was born on March 28, 1986, in New York City. She attended New York University’s Tisch School for the Arts but left to find opportunities elsewhere. Her debut album, The Fame, was a huge success, and the single, “Poker Face,” topped charts in almost every category, in almost every country. Lady Gaga is also a big fashion icon which even garnered her a bit of controversy. Who can forget her all out meat ensemble or the time she dressed herself as an egg? She has acquired many accolades, including 6 Grammy awards! She also has other trophies under her name, such as MTV awards and Billboard music awards.
5) Robert De Niro
Arguably the most iconic actor on this list, Robert De Niro is most well known for his astounding role in the Godfather as Vito Corleone. Robert De Niro was Born in New York City on August 17, 1943. De Niro, at an early age of 16, left school so he can pursue a career in acting. De Niro’s first movie was a short film, Encounter, which premiered in 1965. He worked with many acclaimed film directors such as Martin Scorsese, and in 1974, De Niro’s role in The Godfather: Part II brought him his first Academy Award. De Niro won a second academy award as well for his leading role in Raging Bull.
