Need some NYC weekend plans? If you love live music, here are five shows you may not want to miss:
Joe Russo’s Almost Dead @ Brooklyn Bowl (10/6, 10/7)
Joe Russo not only played with Grateful Dead members in Further, but now runs his own band of playing Grateful Dead songs. Along with Russo’s thunderous drumming, Marco Benevento, Dave Dreiwitz, Scott Metzger and Tom Hamilton expertly play classic Dead jams with a harder bite. Details.
The National @ Forest Hills Stadium (10/6)
The National are on tour following the release of their great new album featuring more of their signature heartbreaking songs, Sleep Well Beast. The tour brings them to Forest Hills Stadium in Queens tonight. Details.
Wye Oak @ City Winery (10/6)
City Winery is a great place to catch a show, and Wye Oak should be no exception. The duo of Jenn Wasner and Andy Stack (who plays drums and keys simultaneously) produce dreamy melodies along with some serious guitar shredding. Details.
Daniel Johnston & Friends @ Town Hall (10/7)
The hugely influential lo-fi songwriter, Daniel Johnston, is now on his retirement tour, bringing along various musicians as his band. Saturday night’s backing band includes member of Gang Gang Dance, Beirut, and Cibo Matto. Details.
Pinback @ Irving Plaza (10/8)
Singer Rob Crow is known for being highly prolific and a member of an array of projects, but perhaps is best known for his work in Pinback, along with bassist, Zach Smith. They are now on tour celebrating the 10th anniversary of their album, Autumn of the Seraphs. Details (Tip: Use “End of Summer” discount code, SUMMER, for discounted tickets!).
